We invited our interns to reflect on their summer experiences and share their key takeaways. Their thoughtful insights provided valuable perspectives on the internship program, and we are so thankful for their impact on our team.

Danny Orrico

My experience as a Financial Planning Intern at PYA Waltman Capital was nothing short of incredible. PYA Waltman did an amazing job making me feel welcome and cared about. I enjoyed every single person I met this summer, and I have never experienced a culture like PYAW. I was challenged to push myself mentally and take on projects that I’ve never seen before. I was able to work through financial planning software, give multiple presentations, do in-depth investment research, and I was able to attend and assist in client meetings. I am very grateful to my coworkers at PYA Waltman, and I could not have asked fora better learning experience and environment like the one they have provided for me this summer!

Nicholas Lano

This summer was one where I stepped out of my comfort zone, experienced new parts of the industry, and was shown the ins-and-outs of working for PYA Waltman Capital. The experience I gained and training I received makes me confident that this is what I want to do and that I'll be more prepared stepping into this career path.

Thomas Greene

I can confidently say that my experience with the PYA Waltman team this summer has yielded extreme fruit for myself on the path of becoming a true financial advisor. It would be incredibly difficult to attempt to articulate all my takeaways from this summer in an excerpt such as this. I came into this summer with high hopes to learn and strengthen my foundation in this career path. Needless to say, my cup is now overflowing as my time here comes to an end. Every single day I learned something richly valuable for being an honest and impactful advisor. I owe this to the team at PYA Waltman because, from day one, they were clearly eager to pour into me as student of the practice that they doin the most professional way I have ever encountered. Before this summer, I liked the idea of being able to help a family/individual meet their financial goals. Leaving this summer, I can confidently say that I feel more equipped from my time here to really do that, than any other experience I have ever had.

This internship has provided an incredible starting point for my career. I had the opportunity to work on projects in areas from investment management and trading, as I was expecting, to technology and programming tasks. PYAW values people who are naturally curious and willing to work on what they are interested in, even if it doesn’t exactly align with their title. The projects I worked on also had a meaningful impact on the firm; they were more than just grunt/busy work or internal projects to be graded for evaluation, instead they were projects that actually affected the presentations to clients. For me, as the Trade Operations Intern, I had the opportunity to place trades in client accounts (under supervision), and build reports that the advisors used in their meetings with the clients. On top of that I also got to work on an equity research project that was presented to the Investment Committee. The work environment here was incredible as well. If I ever had a question, the employees of the firm were always willing to ensure that I had a comprehensive answer. It was an environment that valued curiosity and one that encourages learning and personal growth. Overall, I am overjoyed with the opportunities that this internship has provided, and I am glad to be joining full-time this fall.
